America Remembers
It takes so little effort to bring all of the memories back. The terrifying eruption of bright orange flame and thick black smoke. The towers collapsing. The survivors covered in ash. The penetration of the Pentegon. The heroism of the passengers above Somerset County Pennsylvania in United Flight 93.
But those images were followed by others – of millions drawing together in prayer, of a resolute president promising justice.
Every day now, Americans worry about the future of this war with no end. Today, though, we pause to remember some of its first heroes on that morning five years ago.
