A Confession
I am a a PC user. I always have been.
For years, I have ridiculed Mac users. Please forgive me.
About a month ago i received a position in my conference that came with a mac. I was skeptical. After tweaking with it for a few hours, now i am in love. It is so simple, so efficient and so smooth.
Blogs such as these, here and here help spur my desire to get a mac for myself. And posts like this cause a little concern.
Do any of you have any suggestions? Should I would remain a loyal PC user or should I make the jump?

My son has had a mac for about three years and would not consider going back to a PC. It is much more stable, doesn’t crash, handles graphics a lot better and over all is a superior machine, costs 3 times as much and not as much software for it, but if it does what you want, it probably is the way to go.
I say, switch to Mac! I am typing this on a Macintosh G4 that was purchased new in 2000. All of my design work is done on this computer that is now over seven years old. I have worked nearly 20,000 hours using this machine and it have never had any problems with it. I have upgraded the software several times and it still runs at a reasonable speed. My G4 has never gotten a virus of any kind although I have no anti-virus software installed. Any software that is worth anything is available in both Windows and Mac platforms. If not, I hear you can run Windows on the new Macs (but who would want to do that?!) The Mac commercials on apple.com pretty much say it all!
Jim, I have talked to James about macs. He loves them.
Jon, you make it sound even more tempting. I have been saving for my computer fund. My PC is almost 4 years old. Hard drive has crashed multiple times and it is moving slower these days. Even though I do maintenance on it, I know the inevitable is coming.
I think I want to go portable this time. Is the MacBook Pro the thing to get? It is pricier, but I don’t want to regret it 4 – 5 months down the road that I didn’t get something better. Plus the Pro just looks sweet!

The main difference between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro are features like the ExpressCard slot and better graphics. I have a MacBook and am pretty happy with it–I can’t play some of the latest games, but that might be a plus;-) ; but if you need the graphics capability or that slot, then the MacBook is worth the extra money. Otherwise, just load up a MacBook with lots of memory and the fastest processor if you want it to last you longer.
That, and screen size. Small was important to me, and the smallest MacBook Pro is 15″. Some people prefer that huge 17″ MacBook Pro. The options could change, of course. Apple says they will be coming out with LED-backlit screens (longer battery life!) sometime this year. They might decide to introduce some new screen sizes while they’re at it. Oh, and the graphics are also supposed to start getting better in the MacBooks with Intel’s latest chipsets… I just got my ‘book last fall, but I’ll be drooling over the cool new features whenever the next models come out.
