Sex Saturated Society

Pardon me while I climb up on my soapbox.

This past weekend I heard about a young teenager in our area who just got pregnant by a boy who is in his teens as well.

I also heard about an eighteen-year-old who already has three kids.

Last night, as some of our pre-teens were out on a little excursion, I “caught” some of the pre-teen girls sneaking off to our van and listening to “music.” Of course when I came around, the perverse lyrics were quickly replaced with more holy ones.

Also last night on our way home, my 10 and 11 year old boys were having a serious discussion on the benefits of Viagra and talking about the latest absence of Brittany Spear’s’ underwear. They also asked me to turn on the “hot” music station. I politely declined.

Today, during my travels to Staples, I turned on the “hot” music station to get an understanding of why our pre-teens and teens are drawn toward this type of music. After 4 or 5 songs of artists singing about sex acts, strippers, affairs, violence, drug usage, and free flowing alcohol, I turned it off.

And our society wonders why teenage pregnancy continues. We wonder why STD’s are on the rise. We wonder why pre-teens have sex. We wonder why people view porn at a young age. We cry out against sex addicts and sex offenders. And yet we sit back and let our kids listen to the filth on radio, and allow them to watch all of these perverse music videos.

More shocking than that, the church world, more specifically the conservative holiness church world that I am proud to be a part of, by in large is silent on this issue. We have got to stop being silent.

Thanks, I am now stepping off of my soapbox. But be warned, I’m not finished yet!

what would be some ideas for the church to address the situation.
its become so taboo and i’d even say the church has become very prude in even talking about it. so what suggestions do you have

Good preaching Brother……..if I lived in Lebanon, PA. I would attend your church. My wife is a second cousin to your pastor’s wife.

Thank you for “not being finished yet.” I work with both Bible College Students and unsaved teenagers and there isn’t that much difference between the two when it comes to this topic. Write a book- I will read it. :o )
