shot to death in a card game

by Robert

At least one of my relatives was pretty serious about playing cards. So serious that he was shot to death in a card game! I was going through some potential relative files on ancestory.com the other evening, and there was a dreaded, dark, family secret.

James Booth in all probability was the brother of my great-great grandfather, D. Booth. His legacy was that he was killed playing cards. No wonder my mom did’t allow to play cards growing up :-)

If I ever did find that I was related, I am not sure I would let others know!

Did you check out the feature on Ancestry that tells you if your related to someone famous?

Lois, there is so much I haven’t explored on that site! I didn’t realize that option existed. I will check it out sometime. I did “trace” on of my relatives on my fathers side back to the Mayflower on ancestory.com – pretty cool. He came over as a servant, was on one of the first exploratory searches at Plymouth and signed the Mayflower Compact. Now I just have to make sure that all of the genealogical records are legit – so I won’t be claiming it anytime soon.

I wish I knew this info before Arlene and I visited Plymouth in October. We were probably in the very cemetery that he is buried.
