Quite a Paradox

by Robert

Today I represented George Whitefield in my “vicarious interview” with Benjamin Franklin on the issue of matters of conscious. George and Ben were friends so it setup a great interview.

George Whitefield was a unique man. He was part of the Holy Club with John and Charles Wesley before his conversion experience; he differed theologically with John and Charles, and he felt compelled to be a missionary throughout the colonies as well as the world helping to kindle the local revival fires. Many scholars consider him to be highly instrumental in the first great awakening.

At the same time, he was a slave owner. While he treated his slaves “with fairness” he believed that he was correct to do so. In fact Georgia outlawed slavery at one point, but Whitefield was instrumental in having it reinstated.

Quite a paradox.

It makes me wonder. Are we doing things intentionally or unintentionally that are creating paradoxes for upcoming generations?
