Today is the 109th birthday of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Bonhoeffer was a German pastor and theologian. He was a staunch anti-Nazi dissident. He went to the United States during the rise of Nazi power but was compelled to go back to do God’s work in the midst of an evil regime. Among his writings include the classic, The Cost of Discipleship.
During his time over in the United States he wrote,“One may hear sermons in New York upon almost any subject; one only is never handled, … namely, the gospel of Jesus Christ, of the cross, of sin and forgiveness.… ”
May we be bold about proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in our pulpits, classrooms, homes and through whatever means God wants us to utilize.
