I have a fascination for old religious periodicals, and at one point had quite a collection. And I had a few copies of this unique periodical which is this brief focus on Thoughts from History.

On this date, March 6, 1830, The New York Evangelist is founded with the assistance of Charles G. Finney. The founding editor was Noah C. Saxton, a former evangelist. Both Finney and Saxton were frustrated that the New York Observer was not publishing articles or announcements about revivals.  The Evangelist was formed with he express purpose to represent revival interests.
