On this date, March 16, 37 AD, Tiberius Caesar, the Roman emperor, died. He was the second Roman Emperor, after Caesar Augustus who died in 14 AD. So Tiberius would have been emperor of Rome throughout a significant portion of the life of Jesus.
He was a cruel man and many historians record him as being sexually perverse. Tacitus, an early Roman historian records that upon the news of the death of Tiberius, the crowd rejoiced.
