On this date, April 1, 1548, the British Parliament ordered the first printing of the English Book of Common Prayer. The work, completed in 1549 was the first prayer book to include the complete forms of service for daily and Sunday worship in English. It contained Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, the Litany and Holy Communion. It has been revised over the years and been the object of much scrutiny and debate over the years.
