On this date, April 9, 1761, William Law died. He wrote several book and tracts, but he is most known for Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life. This book greatly influenced George Whitefield and John Wesley and still influences evangelicalism. It was after reading the pages of this book that Wesley determined to live his entire life devoted to God.
Here are several worthwhile quotes from the pen of William Law.
“If you have not chosen the kingdom of God first, it will in the end make no difference what you have chosen instead.”
“Receive every day as a resurrection from death, as a new enjoyment of life.”
“Grant that I may worship and pray unto Thee with as much reverence and godly fear, as if I saw the heavens open and all the angels that stand around Thy throne. Amen.”
