On this date, April 24, 624, Mellitus died. He was the first bishop of London and the third archbishop of Canterbury.

According to Early History of the Church of Canterbury written by Nicholas Brooks, when Mellitus was archbishop, he supposedly performed a miracle by diverting a fire that had started in Canterbury and threatened the church. He was carried into the flames, upon which the wind changed direction, thus saving the building.
