On this date, June 6, 1742, John Wesley preached from his father’s tomb. The event happened after John was not allowed to preach at St. Andrew’s church, where his father had been rector. So John decided to preach on top of his father’s grave which was near the south door of the church. It was symbolic, but perhaps also because it was land the family owned and John could not be evicted.
