On this date, September 9, 1747, Thomas Coke born. Some believed that Coke would be Wesley’s successor after Fletcher died young, but it was not to be. Coke was widely involved in spreading Methodist missions.
Though they had occasional conflict, Francis Asbury had this to say about Thomas Coke.
He was “a gentleman, a scholar, a bishop to us; and as a minister of Christ, in zeal, in labours, in services, the greatest man in the last century.”
