On this date, December 17, 1662, Samuel Wesley was born (some sources say September 18, 1662). He was the husband of Susanna Wesley and the father of John and Charles as well as seventeen other children. Sadly, nine of this children died in infancy. He himself was a member of the clergy for the Church of England. He was also a poet and author. His first book, interesting enough was titled, Maggots which was a collection of verses on a variety of subjects aimed at younger readers.
