Joseph woke up as a prisoner but before the day was over, he would stand before Pharaoh.

For years, Joseph had waited. He had been betrayed, falsely accused, forgotten, and confined. There was no indication when he woke up that morning that this day would be any different from the hundreds that had come before it. Then everything changed.

Pharaoh had a dream that no one could interpret, and suddenly the forgotten prisoner was remembered. The chief butler finally told Pharaoh about Joseph, and Joseph was quickly brought out of prison.

What appears sudden in Genesis 41 had actually been years in the making. Joseph had learned faithfulness in Potiphar’s house. He had chosen integrity when tempted. He had remained dependable when falsely accused. He had served others while imprisoned. God had been preparing Joseph long before Pharaoh ever knew his name.

That’s an important reminder for us. We naturally want the open door, but we don’t always appreciate the preparation that comes before it. Sometimes the season that feels like we’re going nowhere is actually the season God is using to prepare us for what comes next.

When Joseph finally stood before Pharaoh, he didn’t use the opportunity to promote himself. Pharaoh told Joseph that he had heard he could interpret dreams. Joseph answered, “It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace” (Genesis 41:16).

There is something powerful about that response. Joseph had been given an extraordinary opportunity, but his first instinct was to point Pharaoh toward God.

Perhaps you’re in a season right now that feels repetitive or unnoticed. You may wonder why a door hasn’t opened or why God hasn’t changed your circumstances. Don’t waste the waiting. Keep serving faithfully. Keep growing. Keep trusting God.

When God’s time came, no prison could keep Joseph from the place God had prepared for him.

We don’t have to force every door open. Our responsibility is to remain faithful where God has placed us and trust Him to open the right door at the right time.

Joseph woke up as a prisoner but by the end of the day, everything had changed. Never underestimate what God can do when His time has come.
